RS Sailboat Drive in Practical Boat Owner Magazine

Leading UK sailing magazine Practical Boat Owner wrote a two page article on our unique Octopus sailboat drive in their August 2010 issue, featuring the installation by David Foster on his then new Beneteau 31 'Aragon'.  Since then, they have mentioned our drive again in their April 2012 issue.

But first David's reply to our question on present performance
When asked by our Sales and Marketing Manager for an update on how the Octopus drive was working we got the following response:

"How Boring can you get!!!  It's like I say at work a good project is a boring project, and it's the same for the drive, I'm so confident that its going to work its boring."

This is the word for word reply by email sent 20/04/2012:

"Hi Tim, re the Octopus drive its hard to say much about it because it just works, no matter what the weather, if I push the button the boat steers to A/P.  Bit boring really but I never have any doubt whatsoever that it will hold the boat on course, unless I overpress the boat under sail and it broaches, but even then it puts the rudder hard over to try to stop it, and that takes considerable force.

It's like I say at work a good project is a boring project, and it's the same for the drive, I'm so confident that its going to work its boring.

I even use it single handed with my Asymmetrical flying, I just set the autopilot to steer to wind and then I can trim the chute to my hearts content. I use a remote control so I can make course alterations whilst stood on the side deck looking at the chute.

Not sure how to make an article out of that,

David"
